Inspiration
Marrakech was founded in 1071 by the Berber ruler of the Almoravids. It became the capital of the Almoravid Emirate and later came under the rule of the Almohads. Palaces and religious buildings were built, and Andalusian influences took their place. Over centuries, the city declined and was reborn under the Saadian administration, becoming their capital in the 16th century. Marrakech saw the flourishing of sumptuous architecture influenced by the Ottoman Empire. At the end ofthe 18th century, the Alaouite dynasty succeeded the Saadians.
Marrakech is a fortified city, often called a Medina, dotted with gates that Baobab Collection sought to immortalize with this screen-printed décor.
The gates of the Marrakech Medina are drawn on the glass of the Marrakech diffuser (and candle) in a colourful, precious interpretation. They wanted this silk screen to capture the fascinating colours of Marrakech’s palace decorations and the fine ceramics or stucco designs of the city’s emblematic monuments. Like lace, the doors’ motifs stand out, forming refined shapes.
